Hello Friends, Fans, and Followers; hello Enemies and Nemeses; Hello urban planners. It’s been a while. I hope you all are thriving.
This time last year I put together a small holiday auction to raise a little money for some organizations I believe in. People placed bids on a nice tote bag, a one-of-a-kind coffee mug, and the Gundam model pictured below, among other auction items.
I also did a digital advent calendar—or rather CADvent calendar—of scale figures for inclusion in architectural drawings.
I had a fun time doing this stuff and now that the holiday season is upon us it’s time to do it all again. But we’re going to do things a little different this year.
What does all of this mean for you? Well, twelve things. Each day for the next twelve days a new dispatch will arrive in your inbox. Some of the dispatches will have links to things you can buy. Some of them will just be fun stuff to read and click on.
Same as last year, I’ll be donating 100% of my proceeds from all of this to a few different groups doing important work. The money will be split three ways and sent to the groups below:
OPEN ARCHITECTURE COLLABORATIVE
The Open Architecture Collaborative is a network of chapters exploring architecture’s capacity for public engagement and placemaking in marginalized communities. Read more about their work here.
CLIMATE AND COMMUNITY PROJECT
The Climate and Community Project is an interdisciplinary group researching the twin challenges of climate change and rampant inequality from a number of angles, including architecture and planning. Read more about their work here.
THE ARCHITECTURE LOBBY
The Architecture Lobby is an international group researching and organizing around a wide range of issues in the discipline from the perspective of recognizing the value of labor in architecture. Read more about their work here.
I do hope you’ll follow along for the next 12 days. And if you like what you see, consider sharing with a friend or coworker.
See you tomorrow,
THA
